US: Rush returns home to Oscar nomination
Being nominated for another best actor Academy Award has left Australia's GEOFFREY
RUSH a touch nervous.
RUSH, who already has an Oscar for his role as pianist DAVID HELFGOTT in 1997's Shine,
garnered another nomination today for his portrayal of the Marquis De Sade in Quills.
He says being nominated is almost like a role in itself.
RUSH says working with exciting actors like KATE WINSLET, MICHAEL CAINE and JOAQUIN
PHOENIX and director PHIL KAUFMAN, makes being nervous enjoyable.
RUSH says he feels he's representing not just himself but the entire cast and crew of Quills.
He learned of his Oscar nomination after his flight from Berlin was met by journalists
in Melbourne this morning.
RUSH has a one in five chance of winning the Oscar.
The other nominees are RUSSELL CROWE for Gladiator, TOM HANKS for Cast Away, JAVIER
BARDEM for Before Night Falls and ED HARRIS for Pollock.
RUSH says his first Oscar statue was adopted by his four-year-old daughter, who used
it as a model for Barbie underwear, before it ended up on a bookshelf.
