Fed: Up to 6,000 dairy farmers at risk of missing payments

Up to 6,000 dairy farmers are at risk of missing out on part of a $1.6 billion deregulation
assistance program.

Dairy Adjustment Authority chairman PATRICK MUSGRAVE says up to one in five farmers
have failed to return their farm business assessment declarations.

Mr MUSGRAVE says in many cases the authority has been ready to pay farmers, but they
can't until all forms have been sent in to the authority.

Without the completed forms, farmers may lose their eligibility to stake a claim for
part of the assistance package.

The dairy authority has started a call program to remind farmers of the need to return
their forms.

The forms have to be in by February 19 next year.
