NSW: Family denies gang inveolment in teenager's death
The family of a teenager shot dead at a crowded Sydney cinema last week have deniedthe incident was gang-related.
16-year-old USERPH RIMA died after being shot in the chest in the foyer of the Westfieldshopping complex at Liverpool, in Sydney's southwest, just after 11pm (AEDT) on Friday.
A security guard was also hit in the shoulder by a ricocheting bullet during the attack.
USERPH, a panelbeater from Hinchinbrook in the city's southwest, was the youngest of 10 children.
His father told the Seven Network he was quiet young man.
Police say the trouble started when two groups of youths clashed over the theft ofa mobile phone at the complex.
Homicide Detective Inspector HANS RUPP says a large group attacked USERPH, who wasbashed and then shot.
But he denied the incident was gang-related.
USERPH'S brother, ALI, has also denied the incident was gang-related saying his brotherwas out with his girlfriend and another couple.
The teenager's sister, SAMIA, says she hoped his killers have to pay for what they did to him.
