QLD:Bligh water plans 'contemptuous' - mayors
Southeast Queensland mayors have accused Premier ANNA BLIGH of treating them with contempt
over her plan to wind back the clock on water supply arrangements.
Ms BLIGH last week announced she would repeal legislation to allow councils to opt
out of three new council-owned water utilities that had proposed massive price hikes.
The surprise move followed a long-running and bitter blame game over whether the Bligh
government or councils were to blame for ratepayers' spiralling water bills.
Council of southeast Queensland Mayors acting chairman JOHN BRENT says he's written
to the premier on behalf of the southeast mayors seeking an urgent audience on the issue.
He says they urgently want to know more detail about the announcement .. saying they
want to know .. among other things .. if the government has modelled the impact of capping
charges on the financial stability of councils and the water entitlements.
